Henry Smith was a renown collector of Brighton prints and related historical works. He contributed to the essential reference book Images of Brighton by John and Jill Ford and was always keen to add new discoveries, publishing articles about them in Brighton historical society magazines.
Local specialist booksellers in possession of new stock would be straight on the phone to Henry as in addition to seeking out all of the significant prints produced in the golden period he was equally keen to upgrade the quality of the examples in his collection.
He died in 2015 leaving much of his collection to fill the gaps in local museum’s collections, the majority of the remaining collection will be offered for sale on September 21st.
