The Summer sale saw interest strong across the board and a record total for a June sale of just over £1,000,000. Highlights included the rare 1883 specimen coin set that took off to realise £53,000, a small but potent Chinese bronze scrollweight at £31,000 and the Barbara Hepworth drawing at £98,000. These results as well as others in Watches, Jewellery and Modern Art reflect the areas of interest that attract the strongest demand and the highest prices.
For those looking to make their £ go further it pays to look to the less fashionable areas such as Victorian paintings, antique silver and furniture where prices have still not recaptured the sums achieved in the heady days of the 1980’s and 1990’s. That said it would take a brave soul to stock up on Victoriana in the face of modern tastes and lifestyles.
Whatever you collect, enjoy it, and if you are selling, enjoy the highs and commiserations on the lows.
Following this great achievement, preparation for Gorringe’s 2022 auction programme is already underway.
We invite you to be a part of what promises to be an exciting Autumn Fine Sale Auction on the 27th of September 2022.
