Our inaugural Interiors sale offers a wide selection of Furniture, Bronzes, Clocks, Sculpture and other Curiosities with the Decorative Arts section adding a tempting mix from Arts & Crafts to Modernism.
The sale features a selection from properties across Sussex and Kent including Possingworth Manor, Blackboys and Calverley Park, Tunbridge Wells. Broadly in chronological order the sale offers a good selection of early oak and walnut furniture, garden urns including a handsome well head, antiquities, tapestries and a several portraits as well as later mahogany furniture and carpets.
Stand out lots that fall into under the banner of Curiosities must include an extraordinary discovery; a 12th century walrus ivory Tableman (lot 40) – essentially an early form of draughtsman, a significant Irish Roman Catholic illumination (lot 158) and a locket of Napoleon’s hair (lot 162).
Amongst the many fine clocks lot 127 a George III musical bracket clock presents a truly patriotic set of tunes including God Save The King; Rule Britannia; Roast Beef; Flowers of Edinburgh; London March and for those lighter moments Waltz.
The stand-out bronze is lot 177 a good early casting of The Sluggard by Frederic, Lord Leighton and lot 120 offers a great opportunity to acquire a good example of an Italian micro mosaic top table.
Decorative Arts include ceramics by Zsolnay, Moorcroft and De Morgan, Lalique glass, a good early pair of Mouseman stools, Liberty and Guild of Handicraft wares as well as a fine collection of Art Nouveau lamps by Moritz Hacker.
