Gold coins minted around the World are popular with buyers and 19th century or earlier examples often achieve prices well in excess of their bullion value.
Queen Anne ‘Vigo’
Among the rarest British gold coins is Queen Anne ‘Vigo’ gold five guinea of which fewer than 20 examples are believed to exist. Gorringes sold an example of this rare coin for a hammer price of £240,000, at the time a World record price for a British milled coin.

British Royal Mint
British Royal Mint proof or specimen gold coin sets can achieve prices well in excess of their bullion value, such as a George VI Coronation Specimen Four Gold Coin Set sold by Gorringes for £8,200.
Queen Elizabeth II Royal Mint
There is good demand for limited edition Queen Elizabeth II Royal Mint proof or Brilliant Uncirculated decimal coins and sets.
Chinese Coins
Chinese coins have increased in value significantly in the past 10 years with high demand from buyers in China. Gorringes sold the Arber-Cooke collection of Chinese and South East Asian coins and amulets for a combined hammer price in excess of £200,000.
Medals
We have also seen demand rise for historic and commemorative medals, predating 1900.
